Marvel at the mighty BMW M5.

Marvel at the mighty BMW M5.

BMW has recently unveiled its masterpiece for a high performance super saloon
and it is an incredible car to behold. The strong muscular styling shows a car with intent to be the most powerful saloon in its class and packing a new party piece in form of the M-specific xDrive system.

Debuting for the first time in sixth generation of the BMW M5 sedan is the new
M specific all wheel drive system M xDrive. This is an M5 that not only will be much faster at take off but add more dynamic precision to all driving conditions.

The BMW M5 reaches new heights in sheer driving pleasure for track days and everyday use and is controlled by the newly developed M xDrive system's central intelligent control capability management system.

The BMW M5 will be in all-wheel-drive mode (4WD) with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) settings on when the engine is started and the driver can select which mode for the M xDrive system.

From the three settings to choose from 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD respectively. So yes the new M5 will still drift.

The Heart of the BMW M5 is always the centre piece and with a mighty 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo which is more powerful than ever. The BMW M5 has a peak power of 441 kW (600 hp) at 5,600 - 6,700 rpm and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), all from as low as 1,800 rpm and remains all the way up to 5,600 rpm.

The torque has been upped by 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) over the previous M5 which had 412 kW (560 hp) at 6,000 - 7,000 rpm.

With the inclusion of the M xDrive system 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a breathtaking 3.4 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 11.1 seconds. To put into perspective how far BMW has come with new BMW M5 the previous M5 zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) was reached in 4.4 seconds.

The twin-turbo V8 has been thoroughly enhanced to improve on power and performance with Newly developed turbochargers with injection pressure of 350 bar at it's peak. with improved atomisation and shorter injection times for a faster engine response and efficient mixture preparation.

Further improvements have been done to the cooling and lubrication systems, including an oil pan with indirect charge air cooling and a small front sump.

The BMW M5's map controlled pump which is fully variable for the oil supply and designed with track days in mind and can handle high levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

The M engineers implemented cross-bank exhaust manifolds for the new BMW M5 which is to optimise the energy from the exhaust gases to the turbine wheels of the two turbochargers for the best gas exchange cycle.

For the exhaust system a Helmholtz resonator fitted between the two silencers of the dual-branch exhaust system features a flap-controlled system and depending
on which mode is selected, varies the engine characteristics and exhaust note and offers control for the driver with a touch of the M Sound Control button which can be used to soften the exhaust note if you so choose. Your neighbours will thank you.

The new BMW M5's  power will be channelled through the new M xDrive all wheel drive system and is a rear biased set up. Which will keep the car planted for sheer driving pleasure on all road surfaces and weather conditions and behaves predictably for ease of control.

The new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic has been designed with performance in mind with short shifts and ratios which also optimise fuel efficiency. The M Steptronic allows both fully automatic shifting and sequential gear shifts.

M compound brakes fitted as standard on the new BMW M5 and are lighter than conventional cast iron. M logo blue-painted six-piston fixed callipers braking force is applied to perforated, inner-vented brake discs. to further reduce the unsprung weight the callipers are 23 kilograms lighter. The M carbon-ceramic brakes will be an optional extra.

The New BMW M5 driving dynamics is most important aside from the power. Precision handling brings the M5 closer to the being the complete package.

Drivers have come to expect sheer driving pleasure and agility from the BMW M5 which has been keenly honed and perfected over the last 30 years of its production.

The handling has a vast array of options to choose from and configure to the drivers needs thanks to the cutting edge technology developed by BMW. With the integration of the eight-speed M Steptronic, M xDrive,  Drivelogic and
the M specific Variable Damper Control. With three driving modes Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.

The M Servotronic steering and electronically controlled shock absorbers the chassis has been tuned for neutral steering behaviour for superb accurate
steering feel and driver feedback.

For the new BMW M5 to stand out from the rest of the range it features a newly
designed front bumper with larger air intakes all for the cooling systems and brakes sufficiently supplied with cool air. The M5 has a wider track than its predecessor, the front side panels and bonnet made are made from aluminium to save weight as lightweight. A high-strength carbon fibre-reinforced plastic roof (CFRP) is a standard feature.

To further improve aero dynamics the redesigned rear diffuser and side skirts
and M rear apron and M rear spoiler add to the M5's powerful design and its intent for blistering performance

The BMW M5 like all M5's before it. The centre point is the driver's seat. With
optimal ergonomic convenience and design at the forefront. Featuring a large M-specific designed digital instrument cluster. Keeping the driver informed at all times from the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system settings and which driving dynamic mode is selected, to which Drivelogic setting is selected as well.

The variable rpm pre-warning field and shift lights show the best time for the driver to change gears in manual mode so you can hit those perfect shifts like it's Need for speed underground 2. which van be viewed with the M-specific Heads Up Display.

In the new BMW M5 the central touch display can configure all of the driving dynamic systems on the M sports steering wheel and centre console. The new system also offers gesture control for added ease of use.

By pressing the red starter button The M5's engine roars into life and the two red-painted M1 and M2 buttons next to the gearshift paddles on the M multifunction steering wheel shows sporting intent and purpose.

It allows two individual set ups for the M5 tailor made to the drivers preferred settings. These settings include the steering characteristics, damper settings for the suspension, M xDrive, DSC, engine and transmission settings and its ferocity and ratios. As well as the appearance of M Heads Up Display.

Merino leather as standard in the new BMW M5 as well as M sports seats with seat heating and electric adjustment with an embossed M logos in the head restraints, with lateral support and pneumatic backrest width adjustment for added comfort for drivers.
